Pointer Post - The Repair of an Antique Oriental Rug

Regular readers of our 13909 Antiques Blog will know that we have, a few times in the past (Here - Here - Here) higlighted our good friend, Mr. Shahin Kia, and his Artistic Oriental Rug Shop, in Belmont.

Mr. Kia is too modest to admit that he is a Master, when it comes to the knowledge of Oriental Rugs, certainly one of the best in this country, and, perhaps, beyond.

This is evidenced by the Collectors who, when looking for a certain Oriental Rug, or for the repair of one, turn to Mr. Kia.

Recently, an Antique Chinese Oriental Rug was brought to Mr. Kia's Artistic Orientals shop. It had been poorly repaired in the past, and this person wanted it corrected, done right.

In his post Oriental Rug Repair, Mr. Kia explains this, and shows the "Before" and "After" photos of the rug, and it is astounding - you would never believe that a repair was made, that the Antique Chinese Oriental Rug wasn't still in it's original state.

Pointer Post - The History of Iranian Persian Carpets

History of Iranian Persian Carpets

[snip]The carpet weavers at the Safavid court were centrally located between the weavers from the court of Great Moghul to the east and weavers from the Ottoman Court to the west. This gave the Persian weavers an advantage to interact with weavers from both sides. The result was magnificent. It was because of this interaction that the Persians  created some of the most splendid carpets/rugs ever produced. There are no dispute among the experts that this time the 16th century was the golden age of carpets. The great quantity of rugs woven during this time period was shipped to Egypt, North Africa, Spain, Venice, Netherlands, France, Austria, India, Turkistan and China ...[snip]
