Vintage Dionne Quintuplet Calendars

"Saints des couches souillées , Batman"

If you are of a certain age, you, no doubtedly, heard of, were aware of, or had some merchandise of, the infamous Dionne Quintuplets.

These five young ladies, being the first surviving quintuplets, were marketed and exploited beyond the pale, long, long before the word "Internet" was likely even thought of.

"On May 28, 1934, on a farm in the village of Corbeil, Ontario, near the Quebec border, a French-Canadian mother, Elzire Dionne, gave birth to five identical girls — Annette, Emilie, Yvonne, Cecile, and Marie. Born at least two months prematurely, each baby was small enough to be held in one hand; together they weighed only 14 pounds. Few expected they would survive — even their father did not think they would. But they did survive. Women from nearby villages brought breast milk, the Canadian Red Cross sent nurses and an incubator, and they became the first quintuplets known to have survived infancy.
[snip]
The girls themselves became a tourist attraction. By 1937, about 3,000 visitors were passing daily through the "Quintland" hospital compound where the sisters were being cared for, bringing in an estimated three million tourists between 1934 and 1943 ..."

13909 Antiques has 4 Calendars, with varying artwork depicting them in various activities, from the years 1948, 1950, 1953 and 1954, courtesy of the Snodgrass Funeral Home in La Grande Oregon (two, '48' and '53'), the F.L.J. Breymann Dry Goods and Ready-To-Wear Baby Department ('50') and the East Greenwich Dairy Co., in East Greenwich R.I. ('53'), featuring the artwork of Andrew Loomis, for King Features Syndicate Inc.

All are in Good-to-Very-Good condition (the '53' calendar has the most wear).

So, if your are a Dionne Quintuplet fan, or collect old calendars, or calendars with artwork, you'll want to beeline here to 13909 Antiques to scoop these gems up.

13909 Antiques Is Open!

Well, we had our Big Day yesterday, with a little pomp-and-circumstance mixed in to add a little fun to it.

Some good friends and clients showed up, as did Waltham Mayor Jeannette McCarthy, who officiated over the Official Ribbon Cutting, opening 13909 Antiques at our new location on Moody Street.

In addition, Mayor McCarthy also bestowed upon us a real, snazzy Official Proclamation, heralding our opening.

So, make your way to 13909 Antiques - we have nearly double the space as our previous location, which means that much more tremendous inventory for you to rummage through!

13909 Antiques Grand Re-Opening Tomorrow (Tuesday)!

It's been nearly two-months since we last had our doors open.

After the extremely rough winter, and our decision to move, the light is getting stronger at the end of the tunnel.

We will be re-opening, tomorrow, Tuesday, 28 April, at 10:00AM, with Waltham Mayor Jeannette McCarthy presiding over the official ribbon-cutting ceremony.

13909 Antiques is excited to relocate in Waltham, on famous Moody Street, known long for its' rich retail tradition.

And with all the development going on in the area, we look forward to being a good neighbor, and asset, to the town, continuing our practice of offering a great selection of items, along with outstanding customer service.

What we consider a good omen to our new location is this;

Our site was formerly, likely 40+ years-ago, a Mickey Finn Store, the legenadary retail store (I can remember, as a young child, going to the one in Downtown Boston) that one writer offered "...It was the place to get Dad a gift ..."

So, come visit 13909 Antiques, you'll likely be overwhelmed with our inventory.

13909 Antiques Has Moved!

Well, another apology for the lack of posting these past few months.

For one, much like all of you, we had to endure the brutal winter, which led to major problems with our former location, that included furnace issues, and leaks caused by snow and ice damns.

That, in turn, led us to decide, due to lack-of-action by the property owner, to not renew our lease.

New Location

We were most fortunate to find a new home, a much large space, and located in a busy - and growing - area!

Our new address is 290 Moody Street, at the corner of Gordon Street, in Waltham.

It has two large windows for display, a new maple floor, and room for considerable more inventory that we had at our former location.

I'll be announcing our re-opening sometime later this week, perhaps Wednesday or Thursday.

And, in case you haven't seen it, we were interviewed shortly before our move by the Belmont Business Report.

So pass the word that 13909 Antiques has moved, and make plans to come visit us soon
