Vintage 1939 World's Fair Items

We have a some awesome pieces of Yesteryear into 13909 Antiques

1939 World's Fair Items.

The 1939–40 New York World's Fair, which covered the 1,216 acres (492 ha) of Flushing Meadows-Corona Park (also the location of the 1964–1965 New York World's Fair), was the second most expansive American world's fair of all time, exceeded only by St. Louis's Louisiana Purchase Exposition of 1904. Many countries around the world participated in it, and over 44 million people attended its exhibits in two seasons.[1] The NYWF of 1939–1940 was the first exposition to be based on the future, with an opening slogan of "Dawn of a New Day", and it allowed all visitors to take a look at "the world of tomorrow".
Item #1 is an awesome Tapestry (framed), of the Trylon and the Perisphere. Modernist Symbols and collectively called the "Theme Centre" of the expo.

Item #2 is the Official Licensed Poster Stamp Collection of the 1939 World's Fair, also framed.

And Item #3 is a Vintage Salt and Pepper Shaker of the Trylon and the Perisphere.

Here's some sites you can check out, that include video, and photo spreads of the 1939 World's Fair.
1939 World's Fair:  Buiding The World of Tomorrow - Preserving The World of Yesterday
Time-Life: ‘The World of Tomorrow': Scenes From the 1939 New York World’s Fair
The Atlantic: The 1939 New York World's Fair

All three are tremendous items, and, if you a World's Fair collector, or just a history buff, you'll want to get up here to 13909 Antiques and score these fantastic 1939 World's Fair Items.

This Is Why You Should Buy Antique Furniture!

It's been a grumble among Antique Dealers that the younger generation today doesn't like, doesn't appreciate Antique Furniture, for various reasons beyond price - they have small apartments, they move around frequently, they want to change their decor every few years ...

The reasons go on-and-on ...

Here at 13909 Antiques, we've been fortunate that a score, or two, of young people have indicated they prefer Antique Furniture over Ikea Furniture, or other modern furniture found in the big box stores.

Along with the craftsmanship, the beauty, Antique Furniture isn't going to fall apart in a year, or two, or, the first time you move (we know of at least one Moving Company that will not insure Ikea Furniture when moving it).

Well, sadly, here's another reason;

IKEA Offers Free Wall Anchoring Repair Kit for Chests and Dressers Due to Tip-over Hazard After Two Children Died
"WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in cooperation with IKEA North America, of Conshohocken, Pa, is announcing a repair program that includes a free wall anchoring kit, for their MALM 3- and 4-drawer chests and two styles of MALM 6- drawer chests, and other chests and dressers.  The chests and dressers can pose a tip-over hazard if not securely anchored to the wall.
IKEA received reports of two children who died after MALM chests tipped over and fell on them.  Consumers should immediately stop using all IKEA children’s chests and dressers taller than 23 ½ inches and adult chests and dressers taller than 29 ½ inches, unless they are securely anchored to the wall.  The free wall anchoring kit should be used to secure MALM and other IKEA chests and dressers to the wall ..."
Very sad, tragic news indeed.

But to this point, unless your child happened to be born on the planet Krypton, he or she isn't going to pull down an Early Century Oak Hutch, or a 1930's Mahogany Dresser.

In fact, it's very likely, with such a piece, your children's grandchildren will be able to pass down that  Early Century Oak Hutch, or a 1930's Mahogany Dresser, to their grandchilden, thanks to the craftsmanship, that it is solidly built.

So, next time you need such a piece of furniture, skip the box stores and malls, and visit 13909 Antiques, or, depending where you are reading this from, your local Antique Dealer.

Antique Whitney Wicker Baby/Doll Carriage

We just got another tremendous item into 13909 Antiques!

Antique Whitney Wicker Baby/Doll Carriage

This comes from the late 1800's, made by the F.A. Whitney Carriage Co., located locally here, in Leominster, MA. (it carries a very worn sticker on the bottom)

These were also called "Prams" or "Perambulators"

It measure, 32" High, by 33" Long and 15" Wide, and considering it's age, it's in remarkably good condition, save for a few, small damage spots on the wicker covering, and still has it's orginal padding.

And this would be suitable for dual usage, either for your very young new baby, or, if your child still plays with dolls, and with the height of it, a most appealing Doll Carriage.

Don't spare a minute, beeline here to 13909 Antiques to wheel away this awesome Antique Whitney Wicker Baby/Doll Carriage

Antique Shoe Molds

*** SOLD ***

"Holy Goody Two-Shoes, Batman!"

The hits just keep on comin' into 13909 Antiques!

Antique Shoe Molds

They are wood, 7-1/2" Long by 2-1/2" Wide, and  are in very good condition, showing some wear which, considering their age, is fairly common.

There are holes at the top of the heel, which would be for the shoe maker to stick on his stand, buidling the shoe.

The front part of the mold has the marking "11A" while the back part is marked "22" and I couldn't find what those numbers pertain to (obviously, something for the shoe maker to use) and there are metal taps on the heels

Great get for the collector of Antique/Vintage Shoe Molds, or, would make an awesome decoration, for home, or, a shoe store owner.

(We also have a set of Antique Iron Cobbler Equipment)

Tap your toes up here to 13909 Antiques to slide these into your possession.

Chrome, with a Bakalite top on the pump, standing over a tray of shot glasses, waiting to be filled from the etched glass decanter.

It's in very good condition, with some wear on the tray ...

Antique Magic Lantern Slides and Box

"Holy Incandescent Images, Batman!"

Oh boy, have we got an item into 13909 Antiques!

Antique Magic Lantern Slides and Box

These come from the mid-1800's.

The writing on the Mahogany Wood Box says;

"Reverand P.T Norris, Trinity Rectory 1862"

There are 35 Glass Slides (majority in metal frames, a few unframed) depicting photographs, animated stories (4 with Little Red Riding Hood, others with some time of Medival scences) and even a "Merry Christmas".

For those of you unfamilar with Antique Magic Lanterns, we turn to 'Collector's Weekly';
Magic lanterns, also known as optical lanterns, provided one of the most popular forms of entertainment during their heyday in the 18th and 19th centuries, establishing many of the first 2-D special effects. Using an artificial light source and a combination of lenses, these devices enlarged small transparency images or miniature models and projected them onto a wall or screen. While most magic lanterns were designed as simple wooden boxes fitted with a handful of precision brass parts, a few were ornately decorated with exotic painted scenes or engraved metal casings.
[snip]
Early magic lanterns relied on the weak light of oil lamps, but they were much improved by the invention of the Argand lamp in 1784. The Argand lamp used a circular wick aerated by a glass chimney, increasing illumination power by up to 12 times compared to oil lamps. In the 1820s, the brilliantly focused “limelight,” created by igniting oxygen and hydrogen gases on a ball of lime, began to supersede the Argand. Towards the end of the 19th century, newer technologies like carbon arc, acetylene, and incandescent lamps would also be adapted for use in magic lanterns.

If you already have a Antique Magic Lantern, or, are a collector of Antique Glass Slides, shine your light on 13909 Antiques and get up here to secure these Antique Magic Lantern Slides and Box.

Great Offer On Oriential Rugs!

Here's an opportunity you should take advantage of.

Last month, we posted "Pointer Post - The History of Iranian Persian Carpets", written by our good friend, Shahin Kia, owner of Artistic Orientals in Belmont, MA.

The piece gives you some very insightful information, not something you can get at a great number of Oriental Carpet outlets, thanks to Mr. Kia's masterful knowledge of this ancient art.

Well, he's about to embark on a trip abroad, to scout out some more tremendous and unique carpets for his vast inventory of Antique and Vintage Oriental Rugs, and, before he goes, he's presenting to customers a very generous offer;
"I hope that you are all having a great summer. I'll be traveling abroad to find more unique rugs. My journey starts August 1st and it will continue until sometime in September. For this reason I have decided to offer to all my past customers a "SALES TAX HOLIDAY" from now until the end of July. Simply, I'll pay the sales tax for your purchase. To make it more interesting and to extend my appreciation for your past business, I'll waive the $2500 limit. You can buy any rug for any amount and I will pay your sales tax! So don't procrastinate, come in. I'll be looking forward to seeing every one of you again."
Here's the website, so go take a visit to Artistic Orientals, at 379 Trapelo Road, in Belmont, MA (across from the movie theatre, near the corner of Beech St.).

1930's Table Lamp

The gems just keep coming at 13909 Antiques!

Another awesome item to offer you;

1930's Table Lamp

Three hanging-leaved lights, with amber glass teardrops (some are missing), and metal filigree cone leading up to the bending leaved arms.

And, best of all, it's in excellent, and working, condition.

If you prefer to decorate with Antique and Vintage Items, or, are a collector of Antique Lighting, flip the switch and hustle up here to 13909 Antques to grab this and take it home, before someone else does

(And, we have a handful of additional Antique/Vintage Table and Floor Lamps, including Tiffany-Like, Slag, Funky and Ornate)
